Groundwater Monitoring Programs for Illinois and Missouri Mines
The coal industry in Illinois and Missouri faces several types of challenges in implementing a protective groundwater monitoring program. PDC Laboratories samplers are specially trained and equipped to address these challenges. They include measuring the oxidation/reduction potential of groundwaters, measuring the dissolved oxygen content of groundwaters, and sampling methods for inorganic compounds to assess redox equilibria and its impacts on speciation and solubility. Special attention and close collaboration with Laboratory Project Managers ensures that proper containers are used, appropriate field filtration is performed, field preservation is promptly applied, and appropriate QA/QC samples are taken. It is only through close collaboration with all members of the team that analytical results can be provided that consistently reflect in situ groundwater quality.
